The Office and Its Services

Prebusiness advising is offered through a centralized office (the Prebusiness Advising Office) within Trinity College of Arts and Sciences. While the office initially functioned to aid seniors applying to graduate business school, it has expanded to provide comprehensive information to all students interested in learning more about graduate management education and to assist them with academic planning as they explore business careers as well as business school. Students are encouraged to discover the opportunities that business schools and careers offer and to determine how they will coalesce with their personal inclinations and goals.

In addition to its work with undergraduates, the Prebusiness Advising Office reaches Duke alumni, prospective applicants to Duke, the Duke community, and others referred by those who know the services of the office. The number of alumni calling back for advice on an extended basis, one-shot questions, and recommendations has grown in recent years. This contact is encouraged, for it is now common practice for business school applicants to apply three to five years after college.

The mission of the office is accomplished through a series of resources, programs, and services. Available to users are a collection of books, informational handouts, materials from graduate management programs - both domestic and foreign, publications from the Graduate Management Admission Council, and specific materials for freshmen and sophomores, juniors, and seniors and alumni. Students are presented with a variety of issues concerning business through programs sponsored by the office in conjunction with the Duke Business Club, a student organization. Important to seniors, especially, are specific services designed to help them in applying to schools while at Duke and once they have graduated.
